In Gentbrugge, we will redevelop the former textile factory on the Site De Porre site into a new residential neighbourhood in the coming years. Matexi will realise this new neighbourhood after being selected as the winner of the competition organised by the urban development company of Ghent, sogent.

The new residential project will comprise 60 family-friendly homes, including 12 budget homes, with an underground parking facility for residents and visitors.

At an earlier stage, sogent had already redeveloped part of the former spinning mill and weaving mill on the site: a neighbourhood park was created, the local primary school was expanded and a new community centre was built.

However, this did not prevent the team from adding additional neighbourhood facilities. In order to maintain and stimulate the liveliness already present in the area, we are introducing ‘De Knoop’, a vibrant place with an urban dynamic. ‘De Knoop’ will be located in a highly visible, accessible and welcoming spot, centrally positioned along the cycling and walking route in the heart of the site.

Together with the neighbourhood and other stakeholders, the future use of this space will be explored.
